Years ago the way of doing business was very corporate like, it was all about transactions and payments, very stiff upper lip kind of stuff. Nowadays in 2019, it is all about being personal, authentic, being real and I’m not talking about pouting to the camera with numerous selfies.

People want to feel like they are part of your story, learn about you, what you stand for, what your motive is. How you started your business, what made you want to do your specific business. Personally for me, I left the corporate life working as a Executive Assistant and a Business & Marketing Manager and Business Development Manager. I learn’t so much working for various businesses, but I knew deep down that it wasn’t for me long term. I wanted to do things my way, I wanted to market my way, I wanted to learn about business my way. So when I initially branched out myself, it was more along the consultant line, whereby I was actually physically going into a business and teaching the business owner or their staff various things, or helping them improve their marketing strategies or driving some long distances as their Consultant/BDM.

After what was one if not the worst flood in Bundaberg QLD Australia where I live in 2013, those businesses I worked with went under, they were flooded and the majority never rebuilt and closed their doors, hence I did some researching myself and read about the Virtual Assistant Industry.

So what was a dreadful and devastating time for many businesses and the knock on effect it had on other businesses, turned into a positive for me and hence I started my Virtual Assistant Business called BBMC - Virtual Assistance.

So why did I write this, it is to prove and show you my authenticity. Every business owner has a story, their own personal story. Of course we offer a product or service to customers, we get paid for what we do or sell. But nowadays it is more about business being personal. Look at how social media has developed over the last 2-3 years with more social media platforms and techniques used to have that personable touch. Look at different ways we communicate virtually now with Video, Youtube, Podcasting, live streams, with live and interactive webinars.

So if you want to ‘stand out’ from the crowd, just be yourself.

That is what I try to do, each and every day I speak to someone. The way I write, even when I’m sending an email. My posts, my blogs….I am just me..just Barb…so remember to do business in the future, just be yourself.

People will follow you, they will watch and listen…..  it’s the way to build trust, build rapport, build your brand and build your business and then your customers will buy from you and tell others about you. Personally I love the way business is evolving into the future…bring it on…
