For the past week I have been writing a few articles about quoting clients for different VA tasks, and thought is the clients expectations too high when it comes to outsourcing a Virtual Assistant.
You will notice in many Facebook Groups, a business owner will ask for VA assistance and ask for recommendations. Many business owners may obtain quotes from VAs starting from $30.00 per hour to $130.00 per hour based on either a specific project or task that needs to be completed.
Now as any business owner who is on a tight budget, including myself, you would look and think, fantastic…I just received a quote for $30.00 for that job and one for $130.00, well, I think I might take the $30.00 quote…but is that always the right decision??? NO…it often isn’t….You may ask but WHY…that is a great price?
I am not saying that any VA who has quoted $30.00 per hour for a task to be any better or worse than another VA quoting $130.00 per hour for the same job, but you have to put it into context.
Many VAs have experience and skillset in many different areas, some have niched their businesses specifically specialising in just for example; Web Design, Podcasting, Transcribing, Lead Generation and so forth. If you as a client want to outsource to a VA with years of experience for a specific task or project, to a VA that may have a general understanding and some experience, then who would you really choose?
No different if you had a qualified plumber come out to your home and you were quoted for a job, in comparison to obtaining a handyman, you will notice a vast difference in pricing, but also a vast difference in experience. This is why I teach and mentor VAs to niche into specific areas, then to be a jack of all trades and a master of none.
But getting back to the point, are clients expectations too high? Is is because they are comparing these prices to overseas VAs in other countries who are quoting $5.00 per hour? Again, not to say overseas VAs are any better/worse, but the old adage, you get what you pay for.
We are talking about your business here, you only want the best for you and your ‘business’. You have to ask yourself, do I want a VA who has been referred to me or has excellent testimonials from prior clients? Do I want a VA with relevant industry experience? A VA who has provided a detailed outline within the quote, with key points, strategies and estimated time to complete the job….Now you would think, this VA has the credentials I am looking for!
When outsourcing to a VA, I always mention to the client, write down a list of all the tasks that you would like completed, the deadline and what would be involved, It doesn’t have to be a book or short story, just bullet point everything that you need a VA to do to assist you in your business.
I realise many business owners have a ‘budget’ or a set ‘price’ in their mind of what they think the job will cost, but in reality, that is not always true. We as VAs need to consider the time it takes, what experience we bring to this client, we need to factor tax, superannuation, overheads etc and of course ‘profit’ and all those things any business owner would factor in when quoting a client for a job/task/project.
Hence why I DO NOT offer ‘hourly’ rates to clients as such. If a client comes to me and asks for 8 hours of work to be completed each week and these are the tasks, I will custom make a package to suit their particular business or discuss with them the packages that I have on my website if that would suit their needs better.
Cheaper is not always better! Are your expectations too high when outsourcing to a VA? If you want to find out more about my VA businesses and my packages or want a custom made package, then please do not hesitate to contact me anytime on M: 0423 182 450.
