The word pivoted has been overused everywhere, but to be honest, it’s probably the best descriptive word you can use, because myself and many others in businesses, both large and small have had to pivot and innovate during the COVID-19 Crisis.
For me personally when the initial lock down happened, it didn’t have much impact on my business at first, because I had a fair few clients that I was working for, on different projects. But as the months rolled on, one by one, many of my clients simply had to stop outsourcing, others were putting jobs on hold to later in the year, even into 2021. So how did I survive, well to be honest, it has been a bit of a roller coaster, lucky for me, I had some other projects of mine that have been on the back burner for a while, so I was able to sink my teeth into them.
But for me personally I went back to the basics.
I looked at the way I structured my VA business. How I was pricing my packages, how I structured and marketed these and it was really time for me to just hone in on the niche specialties and just keep my focus on setting myself apart from competitors and focus on my niche. I specialise specifically in Business Development and Lead Generation (ie Outbound Calls/Cold Calling/Appointment setting) as well as content writing, so I just focused on those three areas.
I didn’t try to be fancy or confuse someone coming to my website and kept it clear, concise and simple.
After reviewing the structure, I again looked at the cost, yes I have to admit, I did drop some of my packages in price, though not too much so I still make a profit, but you have to be honest with yourself, that this is an unprecedented time and money is tight for everyone.
It is tough out there, not going to lie, it’s going to get tougher post COVID-19, even with all the incentive packages on offer for businesses. On the ground, it’s hard work and I have tried to just remain positive, talk to people, listen to their fears and concerns.
So if you are like me, look at how you have structured your business model, can you do something a little different but still produce a brilliant product or service at the end for the client.
