This question just came up in a Facebook group today. A member was asking where do you source a VA? There are many ways of sourcing a Virtual Assistant, personally people have found me via Facebook Groups and by referrals.

But for many business owners, they really don’t know where to start when searching. Personally I feel that business owners should have a bit of checklist first, similar to if you were employing someone full-time in your office.

Note down the tasks you want to outsource and be pretty specific, not just typing, that could range from anything, so for instance typing documents for grant applications. It broadens your range if you are quite specific in the lists of tasks you want to outsource and also finding a VA that has previous experience in your industry.

There are a number of different VA networking groups where you can register your interest and they have a pool of VAs to choose from. Facebook Groups are a fantastic way to find VAs and many times you may see many other business owners recommending their services. It is always wise to verify the recommendations first and speak to others that have used that particular VA.

There is nothing worse when you choose a VA without having done your research or spoken to past clients, ie like referees if it was a job application. Personally I would call at least two past clients to ask questions about the VA, their work ethic etc.

Networking events are another great way of finding a VA, but because social media is really where everyone is nowadays, I tend to use Facebook and LinkedIn as the two areas of resource when searching. Google is another platform when searching for VAs and for myself personally I have a Google Business Account and good SEO and many people have found me that way too!
